Perspective

If you are a regular to my blog, you know that I have been making a lot of changes to my website and blog. While doing this I have been going back into my archives and finding new gems that I have not seen in a long time. This is one of those great photos that just happen with me. A lot of the time when I am photographing someone, we just explore and see what happens. With these bridals we were using this metal garage door and a few guys just happened to come out of a bar behind me. I just had the thought of using these guys in the photo. They were all for it, as they probably had a few beverages in them, but this is what improvising photos is all about. Using the surroundings and the local talent to make some good images.

Snowing in Salt Lake City

Walking around the city on a snowy weekend morning is kind of surreal. The streets are empty and the heavy snow wraps the city in a blanket. It is eerily quiet when the city is usually so alive and full of energy. The city takes on a whole different look and feel, and the usually hard concrete and steel almost feel soft. I was thinking this photo would make a great Christmas card.

Gail - WOW! Great representation! I can picture this at City Hall in SLC or something. You should see if they would buy it :)February 20, 2011 – 6:04 pm

Kirk - Thanks Gail. This is actually part of Temple Square in Salt Lake. It right by the Mormon temple. Gorgeous spot.February 21, 2011 – 11:23 pm

Gail - I think this is my favorite scenery picture of yours thus far! It’s funny, but I think because there are no people around, (and it’s in black and white), it totally reminds me of an earlier era. When I look at it, I picture a couple getting off a carriage, going to an opera or something. With the woman wearing a delicate 30′s dress with one of those long coats over it and her hands in a muff (I had to google it because I didn’t know what they were called-those fur things they put their hands in to keep them warm?) And I picture the man in a suit with a top hat. Weird what pictures make you think of, huh? Or maybe I’m just strange. Probably the later! Lol!February 22, 2011 – 8:34 am

gretchen - I don’t know why it posted my comment that way!

This is such a beautiful photo. I love it! It looks like ‘City meets Narnia’.February 26, 2011 – 7:26 am

Kirk - Thanks Gretchen. This is part of what makes photography so great. We all see things in such a unique way. To Gail the photo was very classic and I loved the way she could envision the carriage and the way people were dressed. And city meets Narnia gives it an entirely different feel.February 26, 2011 – 9:42 am

Engagements – Salt Lake

I wanted to post one of my favorite engagement photos from a recent shoot. I love how comfortable they are together and the way she just melts into him.

Senior Photos

I just finished some of my favorite photos. They are senior photos for one of the coolest kids I have ever met. Not only does he pull off playing theĀ ukulele, but he long boards, is on the wrestling team and is an exceptional golfer. He will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall. It is days like this where I feel like I get much more out photographing someone than they do. We had a ton of fun photographing him in the studio before moving to a local golf course to get some action photos. We made some great photos. I only hope my nephews can grow up to be such great young men.
